Why do Malas have 108 beads?
Hi there, Mala lovers
This post will tell you a little more about why there are 108 beads in a Mala.
A Mala string has a general set up and is very traditional. We at Sola Bazaar try to honor these traditions and in every description box, you will find information about how the Necklace has been created. Today, Mala strings have become an attractive accessory used as a usual jewelry piece, which is totally fine. If you do enjoy wearing Malas as an accessory, we’re more than happy. This blog and all the information you receive with your mala (about how to pray, meditate, or chant) is a pure proposition. You will choose what to do with a Sola Bazaar piece.
Here are some reasons why a Mala Necklace is so sacred:
The number 108 has a very powerful significance in the science and spirituality in India.
There are 108 letters in the Sanskrit alphabet. The Vedic mathematicians measured the sun's diameter to be 108 times larger than the diameter of the earth and measured the distance between the suns and earth to be 108 times the sun's diameter.
In the yogic tradition, we find 108 sacred texts of the Upanishads, 108 sacred holy sites in India and there are 108 marma points in the body.
For me, Malas have been both, a pure accessory to match my outfit as well as a prayer string. I have always loved Mala Necklaces and its design, which come in great varieties.
When I started to get into Yoga and wanted to know more about Buddhism, I learned a lot about the different possibilities of how to use a Mala in your meditations. I like to use my Malas for meditation. With this, I want to give you the option to do more with your Mala Necklace, but it’s totally your choice, do as you feel!
